The semi-final matches at the Waldstadion Pasching venue made sure the 2011 Fistball WCH party continued. And the players reacted accordingly. The most exciting game of the day was also the last, which saw Austria secure their place in the final in a seven-set thriller.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd at the ASKÖ BewegungsCenter (ABC) in Linz, Austria had some difficulties against Italy but then dug deep and went on to win the match without losing a single set. Argentina caused the upset of the day, knocking the Swiss out of the race for the title and are now all set to take on Austria in the semi-finals.

Austria were beaten by Germany in their last intermediate round match which once again took place at a fantastic venue with a great crowd in Kremsmünster. The hosts nevertheless remain top of the table and will now face Italy in the quarter finals. A few tickets are still available for Friday and Saturday!

A total of three South American teams battled it out at the ASKÖ BewegungsCenter (ABC) in Linz to put themselves in the best position for the quarter finals. It was the Argentinians who produced the day's biggest upset, beating Switzerland in four sets.

Cheered on by a fantastic crowd in Kremsmünster, Austria recorded a clear 3:0 win against Switzerland in the intermediate round. Earlier, Brazil beat Germany 3:1 in the clash of the co-favourites. Party time in Upper Austria!

After some trouble against Brazil on the previous day, Austria had no difficulty in their intermediate round game against Chile in front of a fantastic crowd and a great setting in Kremsmünster. In the preceding match Germany beat Argentina.

After trailing 0:2 in sets in the evening match, Austria's fistball team finally clinched a 3:2 victory against Brazil to continue their unbeaten run. Brazil won the second top match of the day, beating Argentina by the same score.

In the opening game on day two in Salzburg, which was also hit by rain, Switzerland recorded a surprisingly comfortable victory against Germany. Cyrill "Fausto" Schreiber tore joint favourites Germany apart in Switzerland's 3:0 win, making a clear statement of intent in the battle for the role of favourites.

Things go to plan for the Austrian fistball team as the WCH gets underway! After victory over the USA, trainer Winfried Kronsteiner's team also beat Argentina 3:1 - albeit with some difficulty due to the heavy showers. In the preceding match Brazil put Namibia in their place.

The rain came at the end of the first match in Salzburg/Rif and was reluctant to leave again on the opening day of the 2011 Fistball WCH. However, this did not prevent the favourites from following the course they had set. Co-favourites Germany and Switzerland both won their matches in convincing style.

Things went to plan for the Austrian fistball team as the WCH got underway! Trainer Winfried Kronsteiner's team celebrated a 3:0 victory against the USA and the other favourites also won in unsettled weather conditions.

The team as a whole has been through what can only be called intensive preparations: training camps, individual programmes and international tournaments. But the most intensive time is still to come: seven days' World Championship in Austria. A week in which anything and everything can happen, when expectations are high, but also a week in which things might not always go to plan. A week in which preparation is not the be all and end all, and a week when how the team plays on the day will be decisive.

No other country participating in the 2011 Fistball WCH has been as present in the media as Japan due to the tragic circumstances the nation has had to endure in recent months. The small fistball delegation from the Land of the Rising Sun, however, has decided not to miss out on the tournament and is looking forward to a unique experience.

Germany was one of the first nations to nominate its team, announcing the final squad for the 2011 Fistball WCH at the beginning of June. The 9-times World Champion will be counting on team spirit and a carefree approach to have a say in the title race and become the number one in fistball again after 1995.

18.1.2010, Bad Ragaz - Our first interview guest is the newly crowned Europa Cup winner Cyrill "Fausto" Schreiber, who has just become Indoor Europa Cup winner with Schwellbrunn and faced some tricky questions from the OC team. The second weekend in January saw the 26-year-old key Swiss spiker win the final of the Indoor Europa Cup in Bad Ragaz (SUI) against German titleholders TV Vaihingen/Enz, beating them 4:2. This is the biggest success in the history of FB Schwellbrunn, a team that Schreiber joined just under two years ago.
